We are excited to welcome our newest member to the team, Joshua Stone, who is here from the USA as a data science intern.

Hi Joshua! Tell us a little about yourself and what you’re doing in England?

I am from San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA and I am currently studying electrical engineering and computer sciences at UC Berkeley. I am here as part of a Global Internship program through Berkeley.

How are you finding the country?

I am enjoying the juxtaposition of history and society of the UK to my home country and the intertwined historical connections that exist between the two countries.

Have you experienced any ‘strange’ customs over here?

I do not find any customs ‘strange’, but rather as a differentiation between my culture and the own that I am experiencing. I am very open to any experiences that I can have while I am here.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy working on personal computer science projects, going to museums, attending concerts and exploring the local food scene.

Where have you travelled so far?

During this trip, I have not yet gone anywhere as I have only been here for one week, but I plan to travel to various parts of the UK including Brighton, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Oxford.

What’s your favourite destination?

I am most looking forward to seeing Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands.

Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years’ time?

I would like to see myself working on economic data analytics in Silicon Valley.

What are you hoping to learn while working at Umi Digital?

I hope to learn about working in a professional work environment and the process of developing professional computer science projects.

Thanks, Joshua!

We look forward to seeing what you bring to Umi Digital and hope you are settling in very well in England.
